Ala Moana Regional Park fully reopens following Hurricane Lowell cleanup

O‘AHU — Ala Moana Regional Park is fully open as of 6:45 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 10, following extensive cleanup efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Lowell.

The quicker-than-anticipated reopening was made possible by the hustle and hard work of Ala Moana Regional Park staff, DPR’s specialized maintenance crews, and assistance from the Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM).

DPR crews worked throughout Wednesday to remove large amounts of sand and debris deposited across portions of the park by high surf from the storm. Early Thursday morning, DFM provided additional assistance with a street sweeper to clear remaining sand and debris from park roadways, allowing the entire park to reopen.

The City extends its appreciation to all of the employees who worked quickly and safely to restore one of Oʻahu’s most heavily used parks, as well as to park users for their patience and cooperation while the cleanup was underway.
